Ways of paying Your Business Rates


 

Information on how to pay your Business Rates.

You will receive the statutory scheme of 10 instalments unless an application is made in writing for one of the other payment methods below.

Select one of the payment methods:

 

1. Pay by Direct Debit

Direct Debit is the easiest and most cost-effective way to pay your bill.  If you wish to setup a Direct Debit, you can complete a Direct Debit form and return it to the address shown below. We operate a variable Direct Debit scheme which offers flexibility and convenience with a range of payment dates and frequencies available. Please see direct form for payment options.

Alternatively, we can now set up your Direct Debit over the phone, without the need to complete any forms. To take advantage of this service please call us on 01992 564064. When phoning please have your Business Rates reference number, plus your bank sort code and bank account number to hand.

2. Pay by Instalments

You can pay your Business Rates by instalments over 10 months, 12 months, half-yearly or yearly, by cash, cheque or by debit or credit card.

There is a surcharge for credit card payments.

There are 4 different ways to pay by instalments:

The statutory scheme which you will automatically receive with your bill, gives 10 monthly instalments payable on the 10th of the month running consecutively from April to January.

You can also request to pay by any of the following methods

  • By 12 monthly Direct Debit payments spreading your payments from April to March (please note that the number of instalments will be reduced if the plan starts late, the final payment will remain in March)
  • By 12 monthly cash, cheque or by debit or credit card. A surcharge will be applied for credit card payments but not to debit card payments.
  • Half-yearly payments to be made in April and October
  • A yearly payment to be made in April
  • If you wish to change your instalment plan from the statutory 10 instalments or you are having problems paying, we may be able to make an alternative arrangement please contact the Business Rates section
  • You can pay by any of these instalment plans by Direct Debit see above


 

3. Pay Online

This secure site accepts most major debit and credit cards but not Diners Card or American Express. A surcharge will be applied for credit card payments but not to debit card payments.

4. Pay by Phone

Call 01992 564600, we operate a 24 hour automated telephone payment service allowing you to make payments using your debit or credit card. You will need to have your account reference number and debit or credit card available when telephoning the payment line.

There is a surcharge for credit card payments.

5. Pay in Person

You can pay by cash, by cheque or by debit or credit card at our 3 cash offices.

There is a surcharge for credit card payments.

Our cash offices open 9 am to 4.45 pm Mondays to Thursdays, and 9 am to 4.30 pm Fridays (except bank holidays):

Payments can also be made using the payment kiosk in the Library, 37 Sun Street, Waltham Abbey EN9 1EL

6. Pay at Post Office

Payments can be made at your local Post Office. Remember to quote the name, address and business rates account number.

The Epping Forest District Council account number is 302 4121. The Post Office may charge you for this service.

7. Payments by Bank Giro Credit - Standing Order - BAC's Transfer

All payments should quote your name, address and Business Rates reference number.

The Council’s bank account is “Epping Forest District Council”

Sort Code 60-07-39 (Nat West Bank) Account number 56340001

The bank may make a charge for this service

8. Pay by Post

Send payments to Finance, Business Rates, Epping Forest District Council, Civic Offices, High Street, Essex, Epping, CM16 4BZ

Write your payment reference number with your name and address on the back of the cheque.

If you would like a receipt, send a self-addressed stamped envelope along with your bill.
