Carers may be able to claim a discount if you share your home with someone who is entitled to certain allowances or disablement pension and you care for them for more than 35 hours a week. We cannot award a discount to someone who cares for their husband, wife, partner or son or daughter who is under 18.
A Council Tax bill is based on at least 2 adults living in a property. Discounts do not apply if at least 2 people over 18 who live in the same property are counted for Council Tax purposes. If after discounting occupants there remains only 1 occupant, then a discount of 25% of the Council Tax bill may be given.
You must continue to pay Council Tax in accordance with your bill until your discount has been granted. Failure to do so may result in recovery action which could incur costs. Without the full information and all supporting documents we will not be able to award the discount.
