The High Sheriff of Essex, David Hurst, visited the district on Thursday 5 December to meet with the Epping Forest Community Safety Partnership and surprise one community champion with an award.

Oakwood Hill

Mr Hurst and EFDC Community Portfolio Holder, Cllr Rizvi walked around Oakwood Hill Estate to see the work Epping Forest District Council (EFDC) is doing under the Safer Streets Initiative.

They spoke with EFDC officers and representatives from Restore Community about the work being done at the hub based at the community centre every Thursday.

Partnership projects

The visit concluded at the Civic Offices in Epping with more guests including Inspector Jon Main and EFDC councillors. EFDC officers and community partners presented updates on several initiatives happening across the district to support vulnerable residents, tackle anti-social behaviour and bring communities together.

Valuable services to the community

Community Champion, Lynne Moir also gave a presentation about the vast range of projects she supports within her community in Chigwell.

She spoke very passionately about each project and was shocked to receive a High Sheriff of Essex Award for great and valuable services to the community.

Improving community cohesion

Cllr Kaz Rizvi, Cabinet Member for Community, Health and Wellbeing said:

Being out with the High Sheriff of Essex in Oakwood Hill allowed us to showcase the fantastic work that is going on in that part of our district. It was great to see first-hand the hard work put in by our officers, Community Champions, volunteers and local residents in improving community cohesion, safety and infrastructure in Oakwood Hill.

We managed to see the place base work being carried out by our team and I pay tribute to all the dedicated people involved for their ongoing efforts.

Bring the community together

Cllr Paul Keska, Cabinet Member for Regulatory, Technical and Community Safety Services said:

It was great to hear how all the different projects being delivered across the district are progressing. It really shows the wonderful work being done with various partners to support residents, create safer places and bring the community together.
