Road closure fees waived for VE Day
If you are planning a street party to celebrate VE Day we’re making it easier for you to enjoy the celebrations.
For non-commercial events held as part of the VE Day celebrations in May, we will waive the fee normally associated road closure applications.
If your event will involve a road closure you still have to formally apply. We will consult with Essex Highways and partner agencies on your behalf and the application will be free of charge. Event organisers are responsible for notifying and consulting with hospitals, schools, churches, residents, businesses, and town and parish councils that may be affected by the closure.
If amplified music is one of the main purposes of your event or if alcohol is to be sold you will also need to apply for a Temporary Event Notice (TEN).
Submit applications now
Applications and relevant documents should be submitted at least 6 weeks ahead of the event.

About VE Day
Thursday 8 May 2025 marks 80 years since VE (Victory in Europe) Day when the Second World War came to an end in Europe.
The 80th anniversary of VE Day is a time for a nation to come together to learn about the stories of those that served and the VE Day generation, from the servicemen who fought, to children who were evacuated, and women on the home front.
