Housing, planning and environment news, News

Work is progressing to build 28 affordable new family-sized homes on the former swimming pool site in Roundhills, Waltham Abbey.

The properties are part of a wider Epping Forest District Council (EFDC) initiative to build more affordable housing across the district. The homes are being delivered in partnership with Qualis Commercial. EFDC will purchase the homes from Qualis, upon completion in 2025, adding much needed housing to its portfolio.

Watch the timelapse video

The latest timelapse video shows 11 homes being erected over 8 weeks.

Other work completed so far, includes:

  • Installation of windows
  • Brickwork
  • Soffits and fascias on the roofs have been installed
  • First fix mechanical and electrical
  • Installation of screed for flooring

Family-sized homes

The site will consist of 22 2-bedroom houses and 6 3-bedroom houses.

All properties will have a private garden and designated parking space. The homes will benefit from renewable heating with high levels of insulation to help with the ongoing increases in energy costs. They have been designed to be solar panel ready. There will also be electric vehicle charging points as part of the development.

Invaluable housing

Councillor Nigel Bedford, Cabinet Member for Housing and HGGT said:

It’s great to see how quickly and efficiently the work is coming along on this development. This site is another example of EFDC’s dedication to building new council homes that meet the diverse needs of our residents.

These homes will add invaluable high-quality, affordable housing to the Council’s portfolio and offer secure homes to families across the district.

Making great progress

Jennifer Currier, Qualis Commercial Head of Development, said:

We are making great progress at Roundhills and look forward to seeing the scheme progress to completion in 2025.
